Effects of Uniconazole , Ga and Light Intensity of Growth of Hibiscus Syriacus for Pot Culture

Abstract
Influences of two growth regulators as uniconazole and gibberellin A©ý (GA) were experimented on pot-cultured Hibiscus syriacus cv. Haneoldansim and cv. Hongwharang at different light intensities. The results are briefed as in the following;
1. The shoot and internodal length of hibiscus decreased with the higher concentration of uniconazole, and the dwarfing effect of uniconazole and the enhancing effect of GA were more striking when exposed to a stronger light than the weaker.
2. The leaf size was larger under weaker light than the stronger without the conspicuous uniconazole effect, and uniconazole drenching resulted in hibiscus having much smaller leaves under the stronger light in addition to the light effect alone.
3. Rooted cuttings of hibiscus bore considerable number of flowers in few months after the cutting in both the sun and half-shaded places, whereas the number of flowers was reduced in the shade with smaller flower size.
4. The levels of total chlorophyll and nitrogen contents were higher with weaker light, and lower with the stronger. Uniconazole treatment resulted in greater level of both contents and GA showed them vice versa.
5. Sugar and starch contents showed much higher level of them when the plant grew in the stronger light, and sugar contents were increased with uniconazole levels and decreased with GA. Starch contents showed the opposite tendency of sugar contents.
